Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) responds to criticism of using 'fuzzy math' to push her agenda and recent 4-Pinocchio rating from fact checkers at the 'The Washington Post' in an interview with Anderson Cooper on this week's broadcast of '60 Minutes.'
'Since the election, some conservative media outlets have focused on Ocasio-Cortez with an intensity unusual for a rookie member of Congress,' Cooper said. 'She's been accused of being dishonest about the true cost of her proposals and the tax burden they would impose on the middle class. She's also been criticized for making factual mistakes.'
'One of the criticisms of you is that-- that your math is fuzzy. The Washington Post recently awarded you four Pinocchios for misstating some statistics about Pentagon spending?' Cooper said to the Congresswoman.
'Oh my goodness,' an incredulous Ocasio-Cortez said.
'If people want to really blow up one figure here or one word there, I would argue that they're missing the forest for the trees,' she said. I think that there's a lot of people more concerned about being precisely, factually, and semantically correct than about being morally right.'
Cortez said being 'morally right' is more important than being 'factually right' and that whenever she makes 'a mistake' it is not the same thing as President Trump 'lying about immigrants.'
'But being factually correct is important,' Cooper told her.
'It's absolutely important,' Ocasio-Cortez agreed. 'And whenever I make a mistake. I say, 'Okay, this was clumsy.' And then I restate what my point was. But it's not the same thing as the president lying about immigrants. It's not the same thing, at all.'
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, or ‘AOC' for short, is the state representative for the 14th congressional district of New York. She is also, to say the least, a character who is larger than life for many reasons. The youngest member of Congress has been in the headlines for many controversial and not always flattering, but humorous, reasons.
In February she introduced a shaky piece of legislation called The Green New Deal, which was aimed at protecting the environment which AOC claims will be destroyed in exactly 12 years if we don't act soon. This bill would have come with a price tag that some estimates had at upwards of 93 Trillion dollars!
Thankfully for the United States taxpayers, the Republicans put the bill to the test in the Senate where it died without a single yes vote. In addition to examples such as this one, there have been many interesting social media experiments and gaffes, such as this video of her drinking wine on a hardwood floor. This has been something many politicians and even Presidental candidates have tried to do as of late, to appear more relatable to the younger voting demographic such as Millenials.
In the end, the couple had the last laugh as Ocasio-Cortez took it to her Instagram stories to say the jokes on Twitter inspired her boyfriend to get that post-election haircut finally. It, in fact, ended up being a photo of Democrat John Yarmuth, the chairman of the House Budget Committee and a member of the House Progressive Caucus, which Ocasio-Cortez is a member of as well.

Another recent blunder made by the freshman Congresswoman was a statement she made praising the ‘VA', or Veterans Affairs healthcare system and basically calling it a problem free system that is not in need of any reform.

This is a stark contrast to the evidence that shows that the VA has many problems ranging from higher than acceptable death rates to long ER waits. Her opinions, evidently wrong by most people's standards, are also very much juxtaposed with President Trump's thoughts on the system, which are that it needs nothing short of a complete and comprehensive overhaul, much of which he already began implementing.

This clip was just posted on Instagram and shows Ms. Ocasio-Cortez questioning the purpose of a garbage disposal machine in her kitchen sink. In the video, she claims she has one such device in her new apartment but has never before in her life heard of or seen one before and doesn't exactly know why it exists.

It isn't 100% clear in the video if AOC is in fact completely in the dark on what a kitchen sink garbage disposal is, or if this video is her idea of some kind of goofy joke. It may, however, call into question her credibility as an elected congresswoman representing over 700,000 constituents, in tandem with the other bizarre and strange statements and actions made by her since elected.

Ironically enough, a Twitter user had in the recent past created an AOC parody account which was just banned by Twitter. The point made by the YouTube commentator was that it is sometimes hard to tell the difference between an AOC parody Tweet or video, and her actual ramblings of constantly surprising statements and actions. The YouTube user mentions in his video that his short monologue describing his opinion of the AOC clip was ‘demonetized' on YouTube for some reason unbeknownst to him.

The Twitter parody account, which was banned on Monday, apparently was too similar to AOC's actual account and was banned based on their terms that say you can't have an account that might fool someone into thinking that it is something it's not.

Perhaps Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez is indeed familiar with what a garbage disposal device is, perhaps not. Clearly, she thinks these videos and ‘jokes' are doing her more good than harm, although, depending on exactly what the voter base in the 14th is looking for, it may be exactly the opposite.
